Subject: Purpose and activities of the EuroSeminar

Dear Brethren,

Many of you have asked us if we could send an update on the EuroSeminar. We are happy to send this letter and poster to inform you of the progress of this initiative.

The purpose of the EuroSeminar is to create a network of young academics and professionals, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Europe. Typically, these would be men and women, 25-40 years old, who through their studies, their profession and/or their contribution to society, aim at using their Gospel values to make the world a better place. This can be accomplish in a variety of ways, through research, service (NGO and other initiatives), creation of jobs, etc.

Our first encounter was organized in the BYU London Center, in 2016 (“Faith, Intellect and Civic Virtue in Europe: An LDS Perspective”), as also the next one in 2017 (“Religion, Refugees and the Public Sphere”). In 2019, we gathered the participants in the Prague area (“New Saints in New Lands”). Since the Covid situation, we have been holding EuroSeminar Zoom meetings such as in August 2020 (“Covid 19, a Curse or an Opportunity to Grow?”), and in October 17 (“Life Without Fear”). Our next meeting will be a joint conference with our “sister organization” in South America (created in 2018), on October 31. The theme will be “Strengthening the Global Family” (see the enclosed poster).

These Seminars have received the support of our Europe Area Presidency throughout the years, as well as that of Brigham Young University, the Wheatley Institution, the Stirling Foundation and the S&I in Europe. Each time, we bring together, in addition to Priesthood leaders, outstanding scholars from Europe and internationally. Most, but not all, are members of the Church.
